3: ON THE PLATFORM

The mining that began in the 1600s developed into a major industry in the 1900s. With the new railway, Løkken suddenly became a place in the wider world.

 

A shipment of pyrite to the Thamshavn smelting plant. A family on a day trip to Trondheim wearing freshly polished shoes. A letter home to Mom from a son living in America, and a group with feathers in their hats on an excursion to the Thams family hunting lodge.

 

High and low, small and large, long-distance and right around the corner. Most of it found room on the train that changed this valley forever.
